In Velas, the Morro Grande stands out, a result of activity from a submarine volcano, as well as the center of the island where an alignment of cones can be observed, proving fissural volcanism.

The fajãs are interesting phenomena, some formed by lava flows, others by detrital deposits, in areas of older formations.
